Summary

Kate Daniels works for the Order of the Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild。 Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle—especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community。

When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar midway between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers there’s a new player in town。 One who’s been around for thousands of years—and rode to war at the side of Kate’s father。

This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Lord of the Beasts, to handle。 Because this time, Kate will be taking on family…

Super fun, great vibes, love the characters and the writing。 I find myself not caring quite as much about Kate's backstory as I feel like I need to。 It feels like it's going to be very important to the overarching story and I'm preferring the smaller cases that Kate investigates。 But even that being said, I'm having a great time。 Super fun, great vibes, love the characters and the writing。 I find myself not caring quite as much about Kate's backstory as I feel like I need to。 It feels like it's going to be very important to the overarching story and I'm preferring the smaller cases that Kate investigates。 But even that being said, I'm having a great time。 。。。more

When I thought the story was going to be a case-of-the-week with a bad guy spreading magic contagions, I was all for it。 The concept held a lot of stakes and is an interesting plot in its own right within general fiction, but in fantasy? J’ai hâte de voir dans la suite l’évolution de leurs relation et du statut de Kate

This is one of my favorite series and Graphic Audio has done a phenomenal job bringing it to life。 The scene where Curran comes out of the coma 🥹I’ll be over here not so patiently waiting for the next one to drop like I don’t already know what happens haha

I know this is a reread or, in this case, listen。 But it's the first time I've listened through a dramatised adaptation。 To be fair, it adds a little more, just at points where you couldn't quite get your brain to see that far。 But the story itself is so well built, and the characters are so strong that it just makes a great book better。In this book, Kate learns the cost of opening up and loving。 But she also learns it can inspire the best in people。 Curran finally gets it right after miscommuni I know this is a reread or, in this case, listen。 But it's the first time I've listened through a dramatised adaptation。 To be fair, it adds a little more, just at points where you couldn't quite get your brain to see that far。 But the story itself is so well built, and the characters are so strong that it just makes a great book better。In this book, Kate learns the cost of opening up and loving。 But she also learns it can inspire the best in people。 Curran finally gets it right after miscommunication makes him and Kate look like a fantasy instead of possibility。There is sadness, unexpected when some of the characters lost where in the series like twice, but that's the mark of a good series, even they dug into my book heart。 There's thrill and action。 Oh, and some spicy spicy fun。。。 but like once with mid smut detail。I know what happens up to book 7 in the series but would reread this again and again, just because the characters have depth, and grab at your imagination so fast you realised you are already invested 10 pages in。Plus, we get more extras in the form of Currans POV as a special extra at the end。 And Curran is unexpectedly funny。 You get a bit of his sense of humour in the books。 But his POV books are sarcastic and weirdly cat-like。 I sometimes imagine him rolling his eyes while licking his paw in disdain 😼😹4。8 stars 。。。more

More princess bride references。 Curran and Kate fight over dinner。 Kate messes up Curran's gym in a declaration of love。 They finally collide。 Erra battles Kate。 Kate wins in a blaze of glory and blood。 Curran goes into a coma and Kate fights off a significant number of challenges to remain by his side。 Epic。 More princess bride references。 Curran and Kate fight over dinner。 Kate messes up Curran's gym in a declaration of love。 They finally collide。 Erra battles Kate。 Kate wins in a blaze of glory and blood。 Curran goes into a coma and Kate fights off a significant number of challenges to remain by his side。 Epic。 。。。more

5⭐️ 2🌶️ 2🎧This book was amazing。 I am constantly surprised and impressed by how this world is constantly all evolving and all the places Ilona and Gordon pull from。 I loved getting to know Kate’s aunt。 Even if she was an absolutely terrifying and horrible person。 But more than anything I loved the change in Kate and Curran’s relationship。 It only took four books。 Talk about a slow burn but it was worth the wait! Even if these two knuckle heads continue to butt heads and create obstacles for them 5⭐️ 2🌶️ 2🎧This book was amazing。 I am constantly surprised and impressed by how this world is constantly all evolving and all the places Ilona and Gordon pull from。 I loved getting to know Kate’s aunt。 Even if she was an absolutely terrifying and horrible person。 But more than anything I loved the change in Kate and Curran’s relationship。 It only took four books。 Talk about a slow burn but it was worth the wait! Even if these two knuckle heads continue to butt heads and create obstacles for themselves。I am really not a fan of Renee Raudman。 I really don’t understand why she has been chosen as their designated narrator。 I think she is just fine as a narrator for Kate。 But that’s about it。 I don’t like the voices she uses for the other characters and I cannot get over the words she mispronounces。 If I hadn’t already read this book several times。 I think I would have DNF it based on her narration 。。。more

Though every book in this series is added to my favourites list, this one easily tops the bunch。 The non-stop action, the grittiness of the setting, the impossible foe, the way everything falls apart before it’s built back up… I could go on and on forever about this book and never run out of things to say。 I loved it!

Now this is a well written fantasy series targeting female audience。 Interesting characters, action packed story and a little romance as cherry on the top。 You don't need to have a sex scene on every other page to make the book good。 Now this is a well written fantasy series targeting female audience。 Interesting characters, action packed story and a little romance as cherry on the top。 You don't need to have a sex scene on every other page to make the book good。 。。。more

Magic Bleeds is one of my favorite books in the Kate Daniels series - it's where she and Curran finally come together and I always found Erra a very interesting character。 I just had finished Magic Binds on my kindle and those who read the series know what this means with regards to Erra - I won't say more so nobody is spoilered。 I love these graphic audiobooks very much and especially those from Ilona Andrews。 Curran's voice is exactly how I always imagined his voice to be - velvety smooth and Magic Bleeds is one of my favorite books in the Kate Daniels series - it's where she and Curran finally come together and I always found Erra a very interesting character。 I just had finished Magic Binds on my kindle and those who read the series know what this means with regards to Erra - I won't say more so nobody is spoilered。 I love these graphic audiobooks very much and especially those from Ilona Andrews。 Curran's voice is exactly how I always imagined his voice to be - velvety smooth and very sexy!! It was pure pleasure listening again to a story I already knew but came alive once more with this audiobook。 If you haven't tried a graphic audiobook, I strongly recommend to try。 Even better than normal audiobooks and I really hope the trend continues and there are many more to come。 Secretly I hope for the Hidden legacy series。 The Innkeeper Chronicles are already there。 5 stars for this magic adventure which sweetened my Sunday。 。。。more

I love how at the end of the book you see what happens to facilitate the whole misunderstanding between Kate and her Lion Beast。 This was definitely an interesting read。 Family。 Sometimes you can live with them and sometimes you can do without them。 They fought hard and paid the consequences。 The 'I almost had her' had me cracking up。 I love how at the end of the book you see what happens to facilitate the whole misunderstanding between Kate and her Lion Beast。 This was definitely an interesting read。 Family。 Sometimes you can live with them and sometimes you can do without them。 They fought hard and paid the consequences。 The 'I almost had her' had me cracking up。 。。。more

It took me four books but I’m officially hooked on this series。 I’ve been impressed with Kate from the get-go but I’ve been wanting more of a character arc for her。 This installment more than delivered。 Kate has let more people into her life which is contrary to how her stepfather raised her and here we see the pressure points。 Every friendship has ups and downs when it comes to communication but Kate has the additional concern that everyone she cares about could die because of her if and when h It took me four books but I’m officially hooked on this series。 I’ve been impressed with Kate from the get-go but I’ve been wanting more of a character arc for her。 This installment more than delivered。 Kate has let more people into her life which is contrary to how her stepfather raised her and here we see the pressure points。 Every friendship has ups and downs when it comes to communication but Kate has the additional concern that everyone she cares about could die because of her if and when her biological father learns of her existence。 I loved watching Kate push through that old conditioning and always stepping up to the plate to help those in need, whether it’s making sure Julie is okay, protecting the Pack from those trying to kill them, or hunting down a disease-spreading villain for the good of Atlanta。 I’m never going to tire of her badassery。 It was great to learn more about her upbringing but there’s so much that’s still a mystery。Curran, I’m still not completely sure about。 I have accepted that he’s the endgame love interest but their relationship has tinges of abuse on both sides。 She punches and hits him and frequently fantasizes about killing him, while he’s controlling and mercurial。 Neither Curran or Kate view the other’s actions as abusive but that kind of behavior is always going to raise alarm bells for me。 Curran does seem to be learning how to compromise, which is the only way this thing is ever going to work。 Only time will tell。One downside: this was unfortunately aggressively gender essentialist, as well as casually ableist around mental illness。 The former is likely a product of the time it was written but the latter persists in publishing today。Characters: Kate is a 26 year old mercenary with tan skin。 She’s the guardian of Julie, a 13 year old white girl。 She is adopted by an “attack poodle” Grendel。 Curran is a 30 year old white Beast Lord and lion shifter。 This is set in Atlanta。Content notes: intimate partner violence (view spoiler)[FMC punches and hits MMC。 He’s controlling and possessive and threatens to kill any man she talks to。 The book does not treat this as partner violence but it is。 FMC’s biological father killed her mother when she was young。 (hide spoiler)], threat of various epidemics, undead mages, Mentally Ill Villain trope, murder, immolation, attempted murder, gore, physical assault, lacerations, coma (MMC), concussion, broken bones (including shattered kneecap that might result in permanent damage), blood transfusion, past filicide (secondary character), past massacre of MMC’s family (he survived the attack), past death of FMC’s parents and guardian, sexual deviant secondary character (Saiman), homophobia toward secondary character, bigotry and speciesism toward shape-shifters, “half-breed” as slur for shape-shifters, slut-shaming, animal harm, animal death (mule), legally blind secondary character who still drives, rescued stray dog, vomit (dog and human), on page sex, alcohol, excessive drinking and inebriation (secondary character), casual ableism, casual misogyny, erectile dysfunction joke, gendered pejoratives, gender essentialism, ableist language, hyperbolic language around suicide, mention of people who died by suicide 。。。more

This is one of my favourite books in the series, and getting it in the full cast dramatisation, and with additional Curran POV bonus bits just makes the experience even better。 I got the audio yesterday morning and spent most of yesterday finding ways to listen more。

This series gets better and better! The world of Kate Daniels continues to become more mystical and magical adding to the intrigue and attraction。 The story of her parentage is continuing to unravel and grow。 Kate and Curran continue to frustrate all of us with their ridiculous and humorous sparring, aka courting。 PSA remember to breath during chapter 16 because the tension is thick enough to cut with a knife or Slayer。

Laura

I don’t think this is my favorite in the series。 Some things felt silly for me。 But there were also some badazz things too。 And I can’t resist a werelion。
